1. 4 quick wins with Gen AI

Google’s list of real-world gen AI use cases just got updated! It’s a treasure trove of 185 mini case-studies of how specific companies have implemented Gemini in their organization.

A few companies have found really quick wins for Gemini:

  • Randstad, a global recruitment company, uses Gemini for Workspace across its organization and has seen double-digit reduction in sick days as a result. Examples mentioned are writing job ads in different languages with AI in Google Docs and translating speech when interacting with candidates in Google Meet. More in this video.

  • CostPlus drugs (by Mark Cuban) estimates employees save 5 hours per week just with Gemini’s AI capabilities for Gmail. They also use it for AI-generated transcriptions and auto-formatting of lab results and FDA compliance documents.

  • Thomson Reuters uses Gemini Pro’s 2M token context window to 10x their speed for processing documents in context.

  • Adore Me uses Gemini for Workspace to write differentiated product descriptions in one hour, which used to take 30-40 hours a month.

‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ Big companies are finding major efficiency gains from Gemini out-of-the-box. These should be great starting points to get ideas on how to apply it to our own work as well.

2. 7 high-impact, moderately difficult AI use cases

I’ve looked at all the use cases and found some that probably were moderately difficult to implement, but had a big impact.

Here’s 7 companies that have found simple ways to transform business processes with Gemini:

Creative agents:

  • Puma uses Imagen (Google’s image generator) to customize product photos on its website, ensuring they’re locally relevant across markets. PUMA India saw 10% increase in click through rate.

Employee agents:

  • Warner Bros built an AI tool to caption videos. Compared to using traditional machine learning for this, it’s led to 50% cost reduction and an 80% reduction in the time it takes.

  • Hemominas, Brazil's largest blood bank, developed a chatbot for donor search and scheduling. It could save half a million lives annually by getting more donors and optimizing the management of blood supply.

Customer agents:

  • ScottsMiracle-Gro built a chatbot that provides tailored gardening advice and product recommendations from their gardening brands.

  • Tabiya, a company working for youth employment, has built a chatbot that helps young people find employment opportunities; it asks questions, draws out skills and experiences and matches those to appropriate roles.

Data agents:

  • Full Fact, a UK-based fact checking organization, uses gen AI to monitor stories for misinformation. It allows its 30 fact-checking partner organizations to focus on addressing specific claims.

Code agents:

  • Leroy Merlin built a Pull Request Analyzer. It summarizes code changes, helping developers understand projects faster.

‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ It shows how, with relatively moderate effort, companies are achieving big time and cost savings while improving areas such as accuracy and customer engagement using AI.

  • Covered California uses AI to improve to automate parts of the documentation and verification process when residents apply for coverage.

  • The U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs is using AI to improve cancer detection for veterans. An Augmented Reality Microscope is deployed at military treatment facilities around the world, helping pathologists find cancer faster and with better accuracy.

‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ Who knew? AI is apparently making the government faster, more inclusive, and more effective.

DARIO’S PICKS

Google’s original article on these 185 use cases is super valuable, but also difficult to browse. I wanted to make it easier to explore this list, so I’ve spent a few hours organising and categorising all the use cases neatly for you.

As my subscriber, I’m giving you access for free! This database could be a great starting point and reference guide for implementing AI across your organization.

If you’re looking for a more in-depth analysis I’ve also made a premium version for just 10$. It includes categorisation by difficulty, industry and shows you which use cases have recently been added to the list. This can save you a lot of time if you’re looking for easy applications, or curious about how AI is being applied in your specific industry.
