🧙🏼 Desktops get Advanced Voice Mode

Also: GitHub Copilot no longer OpenAI only

Happy Halloween, wizards.

The fast development of AI can surely feel spooky sometimes, don’t you think? If you echo that sentiment, I recommend Andrew Ng’s latest post in The Batch – he has some great points today on how excessive fear of AI is created and can cause real harm.

Here’s what spooking in AI today.

DARIO’S PICKS

OpenAI just announced their Advanced Voice Mode (the voice functionality that’s pretty much real-time) has now arrived to the ChatGPT desktop app. It works as a floating window on your screen, so you can interact with other apps while using it. You have to upgrade to the latest version of the app to get it working.

‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ Chatting to AI while multitasking is a bit like in a spy thriller when the hero has their hacker/tech guru on the line. Tested it for a bit and really like it but – the real power from this will be when it is combined with vision + computer use-type capabilities.

TOGETHER WITH HUBSPOT

HubSpot offers an intuitive customer relationship management platform tailored for small businesses. Manage leads, track sales performance, and understand your customers with ease.

Best of all, it’s completely free, with no limits on users or data, allowing you to store and manage up to 1,000,000 contacts.

Microsoft-owned Github is bringing onboard AI models from Anthropic and Google to its coding assistant, shifting away from its so-far exclusive partnership with OpenAI.

GPT-4o remains the default choice but, rolling out over the next weeks, developers will have multi-model choice including OpenAI’s o1-preview and o1-mini, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro.

Along with this announcement, Github launched a series of other updates, the coolest of which is a new product named Github Spark – an easy way to create micro-apps to bring fun ideas to life (think Claude Artifacts but with an undo-button, easier styling, and better shareability).

Other updates include for Github Copilot include multi-file editing, code reviews and Copilot autofix for security issues.

On a related note, Perplexity is now also integrated with Github Copilot. It’s convenient to use when real-time information from the web is needed, such as finding the latest documentation. After installing, it’s easy to access by tagging @perplexityai in the Copilot chat window.

‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ Did Microsoft just turn on OpenAI? The relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft has been tense lately, but this isn’t necessarily the reason Microsoft is opening up its platform. Other popular coding assistants like Cursor already have multi-model choice – different models excel at different tasks – so it might well just be a move to stay competitive.

FROM OUR PARTNERS

Writer RAG tool: build production-ready RAG apps in minutes

RAG in just a few lines of code? We’ve launched a predefined RAG tool on our developer platform, making it easy to bring your data into a Knowledge Graph and interact with it with AI. With a single API call, writer LLMs will intelligently call the RAG tool to chat with your data.

Integrated into Writer’s full-stack platform, it eliminates the need for complex vendor RAG setups, making it quick to build scalable, highly accurate AI workflows just by passing a graph ID of your data as a parameter to your RAG tool.

THAT’S ALL FOLKS!
