The most important news stories in AI this week

  1. Ilya Sutskever gets a $1 billion in founding for Safe Superintelligence (SSI). OpenAI’s ex-chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, just raised a staggering amount for his 3-month old startup – a billion dollars. He quit OpenAI a few months back with the purpose of creating an AI company focusing on bringing safe superintelligence to the world. SSI’s plan is to focus on R&D for a couple of years before bringing any product to market – the money will be spent on acquiring computing power and top research and engineering talent. The investment round included big players like Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital, and reportedly puts the company at a $5 billion valuation.

  • ‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ Raising a billion while having a website that looks like someone who just learned HTML made it, makes it clear that this investment is all about future potential and the people involved. Ilya has huge credibility when it comes to AI, and is even praised by Sam Altman as “one of the greatest minds of our generation”. It’ll be exciting to follow what they’ll build and what how it’ll differ from the currently leading AI players in terms of alignment.

Harvard data scientist upends finance community with returns in this market

A Harvard data scientist and his crack team have figured out a way to allow everyday people to benefit from a previously “off-limits” investment, with Masterworks, the platform for investing in blue-chip art for a fraction of the cost.

You don’t need art expertise, or millions of dollars, because Masterworks’ proprietary database of art market returns provides an unrivaled quantitative edge in analyzing the art market for your benefit. And with all 16 exits to date, they’ve achieved a profit, delivering +10.4%, +17.8%, and +35.0% annualized net returns - among others.

  1. Anthropic launches Claude for Enterprise. It makes it easier for larger teams to use and collaborate on projects using Claude. It includes a longer context window (500k) a native Github integration and, of course, upgraded privacy and security features. This means they won’t train their models on your chat or data, as well as SSO, role-based permissions, and admin tooling.

The Github integration is only for Enterprise for now, but is set to be made more broadly available later this year.

‎ Why it matters‎ ‎ With AI rapidly changing the way we work at the employee level, there’s strong demand and business opportunity for safety-oriented platforms where teams can streamline their workflows with AI together. Anthropic is taking on this market and going head to head with ChatGPT Enterprise.
