🧙🏼 OpenAI’s agent is coming in January
Also: Gemini comes to iOS
Howdy, wizards.
Here’s what’s brewing in AI today.
DARIO’S PICKS
Bloomberg just spilled some tea about what OpenAI is working on – an AI agent that can take actions on the user’s behalf, such as writing code or booking a tickets to a trip online.
The company held a staff meeting on Wednesday where it announced that a new tool, codenamed “Operator” that will launch in research preview and via the API for developers in January.
Based on the current info, it seems like this it’s going to be something similar to Claude’s Computer Use. It aligns with the shift from Q&A chatbots to agentic workflows that can carry out complex, multi-step tasks, something Microsoft (Copilot Agents) and Google (“Jarvis”) are also working on.
Why it matters Sam Altman recently said that the next thing that will feel like a breakthrough isn’t a model but an agent. This is probably it.
Notice that “Operator” is launching first in preview. Claude’s Computer Use still isn’t a public feature, either. It might take a while until these agents are deemed safe enough to be widely released.

DARIO’S PICKS
Google just quietly launched a standalone app for its AI assistant Gemini on iOS, which you can download here. The new app comes with Gemini Live for conversational voice chat; the features are otherwise very similar to what you get on the Gemini app for Android, which launched about a month ago and already has 50M+ downloads.
Why it matters No matter if you use iOS or Android, all the major assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity) now have an app for your home-screen.
THAT’S ALL FOLKS!
