DARIO’S PICKS
OpenAI showcased 9 of their favourite posts about the o1 model, as selected by their researchers:
1 year of PhD research in an hour (also below)
Why it matters As these posts show, o1 is proving itself exceptionally strong at solving complex problems that were previously out of reach for LLMs (without building elaborate workflows). I’m using o1 myself daily now whenever the answer from GPT-4o lacks depth and nuance – highly recommend experimenting with it in your work.

DARIO’S PICKS
26 US states are considering or have passed bills to regulate generative AI in election communications, creating a “messy patchwork” of rules. Even President Biden’s AI executive order is largely voluntary, highlighting the lack of universal and enforceable regulations.
As generative AI improves, there’s growing concern it could mislead or manipulate voters. 19 states have already enacted laws addressing deepfakes in elections, some with exceptions for political satire (so your favorite memes might be safe).
Why it matters These are valid concerns. Misinformation and deepfakes (like impersonating candidates) could threaten the integrity of elections and erode public trust. While I think country-wide laws would help, I believe this problem is insanely difficult to eliminate completely.

I’ve compiled Time’s 100 AI lists of the most influential people in AI from this year and last into a searchable, sortable table of 188 leaders. Use it for lead generation, staying updated on industry movers and shakers, or discovering new people to follow on social media. |
DARIO’S PICKS
Jony Ive, the legendary Apple-designer, is officially teaming up with OpenAI’s CEO on an AI device startup. Reportedly, the partnership began over dinners last year.
They’ve barely shared any specifics – not the startup’s name nor product specifics. Their is to build “a product that uses AI to create a computing experience that is less socially disruptive than the iPhone.” Whatever that means!
Despite the lack of details, they’re fundraising and aiming to raise up to $1 billion by the end of the year.
Why it matters Interesting indeed, although the details of the startup are still very much scarce + vague. Succeeding with AI hardware isn’t easy, as the publics’ cold reception to the rabbit r1 and the Humane AI pin has shown. But with a powerhouse duo like this, they likely stand a good chance.
